5th Annual UCSB Conference on Global Medicine May
4-6, 2007
In
China, the integration of Chinese and Western medicine has been used effectively
for more than four decades. This integrated approach will be presented by some
of the most central figures in the evolution of this important paradigm for
healing in the 21st Century. Six prominent Chinese doctors/scholars will provide
an overview, specific case studies, and treatment protocols that are
successfully used to treat some of the most difficult diseases facing humanity.
This conference, which is dedicated to the life of Rudi Schulte, will begin on
May 3 with a presentation by Dr. Keji Chen to medical professionals associated
with Cottage Hospital, co-sponsor of the conference. In Dr. Chen’s address he
will share “Half a Century of Integrating Traditional Chinese and Western
Medicine: Progress, Lessons, and Perspectives”. The next three days of
presentations are free and open to all those who are interested in this rare

Man, Pipa – Featuring a film about Chinese Calligraphy Description: A
master of the ancient Chinese lute and a star of Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road tours
and recordings, Wu Man was granted the first master’s degree in pipa form the
prestigious Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Her dramatic, powerful
playing is at home with traditional Chinese music as well as contemporary work
by artists like Lou Harrison and Tan Dun. She will be accompanied by a
percussionist and perform “Ancient Dances,” a fascinating exploration of
