Jinxue is the new SBCAA President. He feels a lot of pressure in following after Dr. Lin Huang’s very successful tenure. Jinxue and his family came to Santa Barbara in 2002. They have been living in the United States since 1984. He and his wife, Dr. Ying Lu, have three children, Helen, Connie, and Jack. Helen is a junior at DPHS, Connie is a freshman at DPHS, and Jack is a 4th grader at Brandon Elementary School. Jinxue enjoys basketball and hiking. Ying loves yoga, running and hiking. All their children enjoy music, running, and hiking. Jinxue received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and B.S. degree from Shandong University in China. Xiaolan Bai

Xiaolan is the new SBCAA Vice President. She worked at Gansu Weather Bureau in Lanzhou before moving to Santa Barbara in 1987. Xiaolan’s husband, Dr. Jiancheng Shi, has been living in Santa Barbara since 1985. He is a Research Professor at UCSB. Xiaolan has two sons, John and Eric. They both love to play sports, especially volleyball. Xiaolan has made significant contributions to this year’s mid-Autumn festival celebration. Due to her connection and hard work, Uncle Chen Restaurant located in Carpinteria, donated 40 boxes of moon cakes to SBCAA for the celebration.

Marie serves as SBCAA Treasurer. She and her family have been living in Santa Barbara for over 20 years. Marie and her husband, Neil Zhu, have their own business in international trade. They specialize in waste water treatment, motors, pumps, machinery parts, and scientific instruments. Marie received her degree in Accounting from Zhong Xin University in Taiwan, which will serve her well as SBCAA Treasurer. Marie's husband, Dr. Zhu got his Ph.D in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University. Marie has two daughters. One graduated from UCSB and likes to travel. She is now in Turkey and will be going to Syria and Egypt soon. The other daughter is at UC Berkeley.

Yuefeng will lead SBCAA in developing their entertainment and performance program development. She has already started planning for the 2009 Chinese New Year celebration which is scheduled for January 24, at the Goleta Valley Community Center. Yuefeng came from Bejing, China to SB in March of 1990. She is currently working at Montecito Dental Group as a dental assistant. Her husband, Dr. Zhengming Wan, is a researcher at UCSB. Yuefeng’s daughter is an accountant. In her free time, Yuefeng enjoys social activities. Currently, she is the President of Santa Barbara Huasheng Chorus Group. The Huasheng Chorus Group meets once a month. Mr. Jie Yang, a famous Bass singer from Beijing, is the conductor and vocal coach of SB Huasheng Chorus Group. Under Mr. Yang’s direction, many people in the group have shown significant improvement in their singing skills. The best thing is that the Chorus Group has a lot of fun together. Lin has been SBCAA President for the last 2 years. He and his family enjoy living and working in Santa Barbara since moving here in 1998. As SBCAA President in the past 2 years, Lin contributed to SBCAA in various ways, for example, selling beers at Chinese Festival to raise funds for SBCAA, grilling BBQ at BBQ parties, asking help from all his friends, and organizing SBCAA activities. Lin is very grateful for the support of his wife, Yufang Xie, and his daughter, Bowen Lin. Lin received his B.S. degree in Physics from Fudan University in China and his Ph.D. degree in Germany. He is now working at Veeco Instrument. His daughter, Bowen, just started college this year at UC Berkeley.

Joan has served on SBCAA Board for several years. Her family used to live in Qingdao, China about 6 years ago. They loved Qingdao and China. After they came back to the United States, they wanted to be more involved in the Chinese community and be able to continue speaking Chinese. Joan and her family enjoyed the mid-Autumn festival (Zhong Qiu Jie) and Chinese New Year (Chun Jie) celebrations and look forward to planning the upcoming activities. She is currently a realtor with Century 21 A Hart Realty, Inc.

Lillian is one of the founders of SBCAA. She has served on SBCAA Board for many years. Lillian was born in Chengdu, China. She grew up and was educated in Taiwan with a BS in International Marketing from Chengchi University. She also earned a MBA degree from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. Lillian has been a licensed real estate consultant over 25 years specializing in residential and investment properties and financing services. She is also licensed as a registered security representative, consulting clients on mutual funds, annuities, and investment life insurance for retirement planning, life insurance, and estate planning. She has a son and a daughter. Her son is currently the chief information officer (CIO) of a hospital chain, and her daughter is a physician. Her husband was president of Tracor Aviation Inc. in Santa Barbara but is now retired. They have three grandchildren.

Shu-Chuan (Bella) Chen graduated from National Taiwan Normal University
majoring in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign/ Second Language. Before
coming to UCSB, She taught Chinese at Brigham Young University Provo, Utah
and Mandarin Training Center in Taipei, as well as tutored business
professionals in Chinese for their specialized fields. She also
participated in curriculum development and teacher training fro Taipei
European School.

Lifang Song

In 1992, Lifang came to UCSB from Taiwan to pursue a graduate degree in Computer Science. After graduation, she worked as a software engineer for more than 10 years. She held the position of treasurer at Santa Barbara Chinese School during the 2006-2007 school year. In May 2007, Lifang resigned from her software engineer work in order to become a full-time mom and to focus on her family. Since then she has been dedicated to Chinese education at the Santa Barbara Chinese School and was nominated for the position of principal, and assumed the position of principal of Santa Barbara Chinese School in summer 2007. She enjoys introducing Chinese culture to the community and to our next generation and will continue to do so.

Shuiqing joined Veeco Instrument, an atomic force microscopy company, as a system design engineer in Oct 2007, right after he got his Ph.D from Purdue University. While at Purdue University, he worked in the School of Mechanical Engineering and the Birck Nanotechnology Center with Professor Arvind Raman. Shuiqing received his master’s (2001) and bachelor's (1998) degree in Acoustics from Nanjing University, China. Shuiqing and his lovely wife, Yan Mei, are expecting a baby in December 2008.

Mr. Smith is the Associate Director of the Office of International Students and
Scholars of UCSB. He is in charge of creating a variety of international programs, leading workshops on intercultural communication and advises/counsels students on problems associated with living in a foreign culture. Among the programs for which Dan is responsible are the International Student Orientation Program and the Speakers Bureau. He also is the adviser to the International Students Club.
